February 2024 Classes and Clubs at Tynkertopia

Classes in February will meet for four weeks starting the week of Februry 5.

Descriptions of all classes, hours, age requirements, and class fees are listed below.  We are excited to offer these STEAM learning opportunities to area children, youth and adults. Please arrive at least five minutes before classes begin.

We reserve the right to cancel classes with less than 3 registrants.

TUESDAY CLASSES

  • Lego Club 
    • Dates: February 6, 13, 20, 27
    • Time: 4 – 5 PM
    • Class Fee: $25
    • Intended Audience: Kindergarten – 3rd Grade Students
    • Instructor: Jack Green, Tynkertopia Junior Intern
    • Description: LEGO Club helps kids enhance their engineering skills and creativity. This class will inspire participants’ imaginations and challenge their minds.

WEDNESDAY CLASSES

  • Hand Sew Your Own Stuffed Animal
    • Dates: February 7, 14, 21, 28
    • Time: 4 – 5 PM
    • Class Fee: $40
    • Intended Audience: 1st – 6th grade students and adults.
    • Instructor: Katelyn Lambson, Tynkertopia Volunteer and Experienced Fiber Artist
    • Description: Come learn how to hand sew your own stuffed animal.  We will be learning how to sew on buttons, basic embroidery stitching, and basic hand sewing stitches to complete your own stuffed animal  by the end of the class. All materials provided by Tynkertopia.
  • Make Your Own Mythical Creatures
    • Dates: February 7, 14, 21, 28
    • Time: 4 – 5 PM
    • Class Fee: $35
    • Intended Audience: 1st – 5th grade students
    • Instructor: Tatiana Velazquez, Tynkertopia Staff Member
    • Description: Using paper, art supplies, and recycled materials found at Tynkertopia, students will create a different mythical creature each week. Possible projects include creating a dragon, leprechaun, gnome, fairy, mermaid, goblin, Loch Ness monster, unicorn, Yeti, pixie, elf, or other imaginary creature. All materials provided by Tynkertopia.

THURSDAY CLASSES

  • Beginning Cooking
    • Dates: February 8, 15, 22, 29
    • Time: 4 – 5 PM
    • Class Fee: $40
    • Intended Audience: 1st – 6th Grade Students
    • Instructor: Jenna Papai, Tynkertopia Director
    • Description: During this class, we will prepare, cook, and eat a delicious and nutritious snack or mini meal. All materials and food provided by Tynkertopia.
  • Introduction to Coding for Children Aged 4-6 Years
    • Dates: February 8, 15, 22, 29
    • Time: 4 – 5  PM
    • Class Fee: $35
    • Intended Audience: Children Aged 4-6 Years Old
    • Instructor: NAU Ph.D. Students of Infomatics
    • Description: Introduction to basic block coding principles using Code-A-Pillar, Code.org, and other hands-on and unplugged activities.
  • Coding for 2nd – 5th Grade Students
    • Dates: February 8, 15, 22, 29
    • Time: 5 – 6 PM
    • Class Fee: $35
    • Intended Audience: 2nd – 5th Grade Students
    • Instructor: Josh Collier, Computer Programmer, and Tynkertopia Volunteer
    • Description: Introduction to basic coding principles through gamified learning experiences using block-based coding languages consisting of text.  Students should be able to read on grade level.

    FRIDAY CLASSES

    • Take Apart and Peek Inside
      • Dates: February 9, 16, 23, March 1
      • Time: 4 – 5 PM
      • Class Fee: $30
      • Intended Audience: 2nd – 12th Grade Students
      • Instructor: Ward Davis, Retired Engineer, and Tynkertopia Volunteer
      • Description: Each week, participants will use the Tynkertopia workshop and tools to take apart computers, laptops, cell phones, hard drives, and a variety of other electronic devices to learn about how each device works. When possible, they will repair the device so it can be repurposed.
    • Write Your Own Fairy Tale
      • Dates: February 9, 16, 23, March 1
      • Time: 4 – 5 PM
      • Class Fee: $35
      • Intended Audience: Ages 9-12
      • Instructor: Carly Smith, Tynkertopia Executive Associate and writing teacher
      • Description: In your fairy tale, are there talking donkeys? What about brothers and sisters, cursed jewels, or castles in the sky? Join us to listen to and understand celebrated stories—and then spin your own enchanting tale.

    SATURDAY CLASSES

        • Creative Movement for PK–K Students
          • Dates: February 10, 17, 24, March 2
          • Time: 10:15 – 11:00 AM
          • Class Fee: $25
          • Intended Audience: Preschool through Kindergarten Students (Ages 3 – 6)
          • Instructor: Jenna Papai, Tynkertopia Director
          • Description: Explore movement and music while nurturing creativity and developing physical skill, grace and agility.
        • Intoduction to Acting and Improv
          • Dates: February 10, 17, 24, March 2
          • Time: 11 AM – 12 PM
          • Class Fee: $35
          • Intended Audience: 2nd – 6th Grade Students
          • Instructor: Jenna Papai, Tynkertopia Director
          • Description: A fun introduction to the basics of stage presence, emotional expression, character creation, and improvisation for the stage.
