

December 2023 Classes at Tynkertopia
Classes in December meet for one or two weeks.
No classes are scheduled the weeks of December 18 and 25.
Descriptions of all classes, hours, age requirements, and class fees are listed below. We are excited to offer these STEAM learning opportunities to area children and youth. Please arrive at least five minutes before classes begin.
We reserve the right to cancel classes with less than 3 registrants. If you have questions, please call 928-326-3400.

TUESDAY CLASSES
- Chess Club
- Dates: December 5 and 12
- Time: 5 – 6 PM
- Class Fee: $15
- Intended Audience: Elementary School chess players
- Instructor: Alexis Nelson, Tynkertopia Youth Coordinator
- Description: Come improve your chess skills and enhance your love of chess by participating in our weekly Chess Club! All levels of experience welcomed. Chess boards and pieces provided by Tynkertopia.
WEDNESDAY CLASSES
- Lego Club
- Dates: December 6 and 13
- Time: 4 – 5 PM
- Class Fee: $15
- Intended Audience: Kindergarten – 3rd Grade Students
- Instructor: Jack Green, Tynkertopia Junior Intern
- Description: LEGO Club helps kids enhance their engineering skills and creativity. This class will inspire participants’ imaginations and challenge their minds.
THURSDAY CLASSES
- Create Sustainable Holiday Decorations
- Dates: December 7
- Time: 5 – 6 PM
- Class Fee: $20
- Intended Audience: Adults
- Instructor: Alexis Nelson, Tynkertopia Youth Coordinator
- Description: Did you know Americans throw away 25% more trash during the Thanksgiving to New Years’s holiday period than any other time of the year? In this one class, you learn how to create sustainable alternatives to modern holiday decorations. Come and have fun while creating several sustainable holiday decorations. All materials will be provided by Tynkertopia.
FRIDAY CLASSES
- Take Apart and Peek Inside
- Dates: December 8 and 15
- Time: 4 – 5 PM
- Class Fee: $15
- Intended Audience: 2nd – 12th Grade Students
- Instructor: Ward Davis, Retired Engineer, and Tynkertopia Volunteer
- Description: Each week, participants will use the Tynkertopia workshop and tools to take apart computers, laptops, cell phones, hard drives, and a variety of other electronic devices to learn about how each device works. When possible, they will repair the device so it can be repurposed.
SATURDAY CLASSES
- Create Sustainable Holiday Decorations for Adults
- Dates: December 2
- Time: 10 – 11 AM
- Class Fee: $20
- Intended Audience: Adults
- Instructor: Alexis Nelson, Tynkertopia Youth Coordinator

- Create a One-of-a Kind Scarf
- Dates: December 2 OR December 16
- Time: 1 – 2:30
- Class Fee: $30
- Intended Audience: Adults
- Instructor: Dr. Alice Christie, Tynkertopia Founder and CEO
- Description: Using numerous variegated yarns of similar or opposing colors and shades, create an amazing one-of-a-kind scarf to wear for special events or give as a thoughtful handmade gift. All yarn and inspiration provided by Tynkertopia. If you wish to make two scarves, please register for the class on December 2 AND the class on December 16.
- Introduction to Origami
- Dates: December 9 AND December 16
- Time: 3 – 4 PM
- Class Fee: $15
- Intended Audience: Upper elementary & middle school students and adults
- Instructor: Kyla Dryer, Tynkertopia Junior Intern
- Description:
- Explore the art of folding paper! Learn the basics of folding technique and reading diagrams. Depending on student experience level and interest, activities may include folding easy flowers and animals to more complex designs, including modular origami models. Along the way, students can experience basic geometry concepts through this hands-on activity.
