2024 Summer Camps at Tynkertopia

Summer camps will be held the second, third, and fourth weeks in June and the second and third weeks in July. Check back often as we will be adding more camps as we move toward summer.

Two New Camps offered: Video Game Programming in Scratch and JavaScript and a second section of  Culinary Creations: Cooking Camp for Young Chefs.

Descriptions of all camps, hours, age requirements, and class fees are listed below.  We are excited to offer these STEAM learning opportunities to area children and youth. Please arrive at least five minutes before camps begin.

We reserve the right to cancel camps with less than 3 registrants.

JUNE CAMPS: June 10 – 14

  • VR Art Adventures: Exploring Creativity with MultiBrush (FULL – no more registrations accepted!)
    • Dates: June 10-14
    • Time: 9 AM – 12 PM
    • Class Fee: $100
    • Intended Audience: Age 8 and older
    • Instructor: Suzi Coleman, VR Artist
    • Description: Explore virtual realms with MultiBrush! In this immersive course for 8-12 year olds, students dive into creative expression through VR art. From painting vibrant landscapes to sculpting 3D masterpieces, they unleash imagination in a dynamic virtual environment. Join us for a journey where art meets innovation! All VR Headsets and the MultiBrush App  provided by Tynkertopia.
  • Culinary Creations: Cooking Camp for Young Chefs (FULL – no more registrations accepted! New section added: July 8 – 12)
    • Dates: June 10 – 14

    • Intended Audience: 1st – 6th Grade Students
    • Instructor: Wally Rande, professional chef and Tynkertopia volunteer
    • Description: Whisk, stir, and discover! Our cooking camp for elementary students combines culinary creativity with kitchen safety. Kids  explore recipes, cook, and learn about nutrition in a fun, hands-on environment. Join us for a flavorful journey into the world of food! All materials and food provided by Tynkertopia.

JUNE CAMPS: June 17 – 21

  • Gardening in the Tynkertopia Community Garden
    • Dates: June 17 – 21
    • Time: 9 AM – 12 PM

    • Intended Audience: 1st – 6th Grade Students
    • Instructor: Dr. Alice Christie, Tynkertopia Founder, and Flagstaff Gardener
    • Description: Plant, nurture, and grow! Our gardening camp cultivates green thumbs through hands-on gardening, composting, and water harvesting. From vegetable patches to pollinator gardens, kids learn sustainability while connecting with nature. Join us for a blooming adventure in the great outdoors! All soil, compost, garden beds, and seeds are provided by Tynkertopia.

    • Description: Embark on an exciting journey into the world of video game programming! Have you ever wanted to create your own video game? In this camp, students will learn about how video games are made, then they will get the chance to put their programming skills to the test by creating their very own games using scratch or JavaScript! All computers and software provided by Tynkertopia.

    • Description: Embark on a coding adventure! Our camp immerses 2nd-5th graders in block coding, blending fun and learning. Through gamified experiences, kids grasp basic coding principles using text-based block languages. Join us to spark creativity, fun, and innovation!”

  • Introduction to Lego Robotics (FULL – no more registrations accepted!)
    • Dates: June 24-28
    • Time: 1-4 PM

    • Intended Audience: 3rd – 6th Grade Students
    • Instructor: Kelsie, Tynkertopia STEAM Program Director
    • Description: Build, program, conquer! Our Lego Robotics camp inspires confidence and critical thinking with Lego Spike. Participants collaborate to tackle robotic challenges, fostering teamwork and innovation. Join us for a hands-on journey into the world of engineering and problem-solving! All Legos and Lego Spike components provided by Tynkertopia.

    • Intended Audience: 4-, 5-, and 6-year old children
    • Instructor: NAU Infomatics Students
    • Description: Introduce young minds to the world of coding! Our camp offers interactive fun for 4-6 year olds, blending hands-on activities with block coding. Through games and creativity, children explore basic coding concepts in a playful environment. Ignite their curiosity with technology! All materials provided by Tynkertopia.

    • Description: Explore the wonders of nature! This camp engages elementary students in hands-on environmental education. Through exciting activities like hiking, wildlife observation, and eco-crafts, kids learn about local ecosystems and conservation. Join us for an unforgettable adventure in the great outdoors!   • Digital Artistry with Procreate: Unleashing Creativity in Illustration Using iPads
    • Dates: July 15th-19th
    • Time: 1 – 4 PM
    • Class Fee: $100
    • Intended Audience: Age 8 and older
    • Instructor: Local Renown Artist Kayley Quick of Monster Universe
    • Description: This course introduces students aged 8+ to digital art creation using the Procreate app on the iPad, covering basic tools and techniques to help young artists bring their ideas to life. Through engaging lessons and creative projects, students will explore the fun and versatility of digital drawing and painting.
