Dr. Phillip Mizzi

Dr Philip J Mizzi is an Associate Professor of Economics in the W. P. Carey School of Business at Arizona State. Dr Phil was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois where he graduated from Lane Technical High School. At Lane Tech, Dr Phil studied Automobile Shop, Arc Welding, Architectural Drafting, Electric Shop, Electronics Shop, Foundry Shop, Gas Welding, Jet Engines, Mechanical Drafting, and Wood Shop. He then studied Economics at Rockford College in Rockford, Illinois before heading to Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas where he earned the Ph D in Economics in 1984.

Dr Phil taught Econometrics in the Masters of Economics Program at Cleveland State University and then Business Statistics in the Masters of Business Administration Program at Texas A&M University before joining the Faculty at Arizona State University in 1988.

Dr Phil has taught Managerial Decision Making, Managerial Economics, and Statistics for Managers in the MBA Program. Dr Phil has also taught Business Statistics, Forecasting, Microeconomics Principles, and the Capstone Economics course at the Undergraduate level. 

Dr Phil worked internationally with Government Agencies in Natural Resources helping to develop nitrogen and sulfur emissions legislation for the Electric Power Generating and the Metal Mining Industries in Canada. Dr Phil has worked internationally with one of his former MBA students developing an optimal pricing policy for a large manufacturer of construction work-site equipment and tools in Brasil. Dr Phil has served on the Parish Council of a Catholic Church in Phoenix Arizona and also led the Finance Council. Dr Phil has served on the Board of Directors of an inner city Catholic Grade School. Dr Phil served on the Board of Directors of a large, international charitable organization where he helped manage dental and medical services, a food reclamation center, thrift stores, and large industrial kitchens – all focused on helping those in need.

Dr Phil’s academic research is in the areas of consumer behavior, game theory, nonrenewable resources, and applied statistics. Dr Phil has published in peer-reviewed journals in the areas of Business Strategy, Computer Modeling, Decision Sciences, Economics Behavior, Economic Theory, Education and Information Technology, Mathematics, Natural Resources, Operational Research, Psychology, and Statistics.

Dr Phil is a Wakonse Teaching Fellow and a Technology Fellow at Arizona State University.
